The question: Can I get injections while I’m on my period?

The answer: In short, yes. However, there are a couple of things to note before moving ahead. While on your period, you may experience pain differently than at other points during the month. This is thought to be due to an increase in the number of prostaglandins present in the body during this part of your cycle. (Prostaglandins are normal and present throughout the whole body. The number and types of prostaglandins present is constantly changing.) Prostaglandins have different roles throughout the body, but one specific role they play is assisting with the formation of a clot. It is believed that this could cause you to be more prone to bruising during your period. If your body is busy making and using prostaglandins for contraction and clotting in the uterus, this may leave you more vulnerable to bruising after injections. If you have had injections before, take these points into consideration before booking your appointment during your menstrual cycle. If you have not had injections, consider the option of postponing your first injection appointment until after your period has ended.
