Cupping is one of the oldest medical practices in the world.
When you think about going to a day spa, you might think about how you’ll feel more relaxed after enjoying a massage or other service. What you may not realize is that there are also services that can provide a specific medical benefit that can make a difference in your life. Here at Ageless in the Triad Med Spa, we are passionate about improving overall health. To that end, we offer a unique, yet far from new, technique called cupping.
If you haven’t heard of cupping before, it is a therapy in Chinese medicine where glass cups are placed in specific locations on your body, commonly known as meridians. This practice originates in 1550 BC where it was found in the oldest medical textbook known, the Ebers Papyrus. There is also evidence it was used by the ancient Egyptians and in ancient Greece.
The cups create suction which is intended to stimulate energy flow, loosen muscles, relax the nervous system, and encourage blood flow. Some of the health concerns that cupping is believed to aid are high blood pressure, fatigue, anxiety, neck pain, back pain, rheumatism, cellulite, migraines, and sore muscles.
Not everyone is a good candidate for cupping, and our highly-trained and experienced cupping professionals will discuss any indications that could preclude you from this modality before beginning your cupping session. We will also go over what to expect and answer all your questions concerning such issues as how long the cupping marks last and certain activities you should avoid right after your session.
Cupping is generally part of a massage that lasts roughly an hour, including a massage before and after the cupping period. If you would like to know more, don’t hesitate to contact us.
